The Austin American-Statesman is now covering this story, as well. And it appears that its reporter also was never told about the blood samples given to the federal government. When I spoke with the director of the Newborn Screening Lab last spring, and she assured me that the samples were only used for basic tests, and that very limited information was actually accessible from the blood, was she telling the truth? Did she truly not know that samples had been sent to the federal government? Did she mean that, because Babycakes was born in 2008, his samples were not distributed? Or did she just simply lie? That's what I want to find out now.
This mess leaves an incredibly bitter taste in my mouth.
