So I was finally able to access the Maclaren website, and it turns out that the dangerous hinge is on the front side of the stroller, where children can easily touch it. My husband and I played around with our stroller to see how a finger might get stuck, and we couldn't figure it out.
According to the site, some newer models already have a hinge cover in place, but we can't tell from the picture shown if our stroller has covers. So, just to be on the safe side, I'm ordering the kit. It's supposed to arrive within 5 to 7 business days.
Hopefully this is the end of our Maclaren drama.
