Texas lost a true legend today when Liz Carpenter, former press secretary to Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, passed away at the age of 89. She was an amazing lady filled with intelligence, wit, and grace.
I attended a book signing by Fannie Flagg a few years ago, and the audience was given a double treat when Carpenter showed up riding her red scooter and bantered back and forth with Flagg for a while.
The stars over Texas will be brighter tonight, since Liz has gone on to "that great Democratic convention in the sky."
