Cakewalkin'

I've considered starting a blog for some time now, and the new year seems like the right time to begin. As a child, I used to keep several journals at once (the dream journal, the Louisa May Alcott journal, the prayer journal, etc.). Unfortunately, I was never very good at sticking with them. Hopefully that won't be the case with Cakewalk. I hope to use this blog as a place to share my observations on a wide variety of topics and issues. Though I'm introverted by nature, my family swears I'm loudmouthed, opinionated, and sometimes, downright catty, and I'm sure this will all shine through in my writing. I'll try my hardest to remain on my best behavior, though.

Now about the name. It's actually a variant of my initials and maiden name, and one I've been considering for a while. I set up this blog, then switched to The Sunny Side, in reference to the famous Carter Family song, which I've kind of adopted as my mantra. My loving and honest husband thought the second title was too sappy, and I have to say I agree. Cakewalk actually comes up on spellcheck when I write my name, so it seems more directly related to me. I have fond childhood memories of cakewalks at school carnivals, so who's to say Cakewalk can't go hand in hand with keeping on the sunny side of life? Besides, if you're looking on the sunny side, isn't life just one big cakewalk anyway?
